Digitalization of society and the future of Christianity

VII International conference "Digitalization of society and the future of Christianity. On the issue of transformation of the value-normative system of the society"

About

The process of digitalization is becoming global, covering both the macrostructures of society and local communities, gradually changing not only the way of life of people, but also their worldview and values. Christianity for centuries remained the religion that shaped not only European culture, but also set universal meaning and values. The question arises, how will Christianity act in the era of digitalization, how much will their value systems coincide and not contradict each other? In the era of digitalization of society, the question of the future of Christianity, that still remains the first religion in the world by the number of followers, is particularly acute. This research perspective becomes important not only from the point of view of the numerical reach of Christianity, but even more important from the point of view of the meanings that it has given over the centuries and those that appear after the digitalization of society. This is primarily due to the principle of digitalization itself, which is based on algorithmic thinking, a deeply rationalistic programming language that excludes the possibility of other thinking. It is important to note an interesting paradox: the process of digitalization itself is the brainchild of European culture and civilization, which arose primarily from Christianity. Hence, we can already see the deconstruction of Christian meanings and their new interpretation in the spirit of digital time and the transhumanist society. This promises not only new achievements, but also certain threats.

At this conference, we think it is important to pay special attention to such an aspect of the process of digitalization of society as the transformation of the value-normative system of society. The religious and, in particular, Christian system of values has always been an important component of the life of both an individual and an entire society, defining the meanings and goals of their existence and activities. With the advent of the digital age in our lives, this system has become either erased or significantly changed, acquiring fundamentally new forms. These new forms of the value-normative system set new meanings for the life of a digitalized society, profoundly reformatting it. The complexity of this problem very often escapes the attention of not only politicians and decision-makers, but also members of the scientific community. Meanwhile, studying this issue could provide answers to many questions and challenges that the digitalization of society brings with it, and avoid a number of problems that it can create.

During the conference, it is proposed to address the following issues:

1) problems of digitalization in the light of the Christian future world;

2) philosophical and anthropological understanding of the place of Christianity in the digital future of society;

3) value-normative system and technological development (technology);

4) Christian culture in the era of digitalization;

5) virtual worlds and the spiritual world of Christianity: the conflict of meanings;

6) Christianity and the transformation of the value bases of power in a digital society;

7) digital religions in the light of the Christian tradition;

8) regional features of the Christian world in the digital age.
